Feeling numb? It’s time to feel something again.
78-Card Deck & Guidebook for Nature Lovers with Soul Fatigue
It all started when…
Alicia lost her home to a fire, and along with it, her Etsy business, her original artworks, and all of her treasured things. If you know Alicia, you know that she collected a lot of beautiful things. All swept away in one very short night.
Alicia’s way of coping with this loss was by placing all of her grief, anger, stress and confusion into her planting, weeding and tending her cut-flower gardens. Just weeks before the fire, Alicia had moved her seedlings out of the house and under cover outside. These plants were all that she had- so she poured everything into her little cut-flower farm that summer.
Fast-forward nine months, Alicia was working in her fields when her legs went numb. A week later the numbness moved up her torso, and then to her rib cage. A few weeks later she was diagnosed with MS.
Amidst the health issues and the stress trying to rebuild her life, and the lives of her family, she began to see a life coach to help her get back on track. She really enjoyed these sessions. She was encouraged to practice self-reflection, and through this practice, she began to feel life again, to see the beauty around her and take notice of it’s meaning.
Nature had its way of speaking to Alicia. Or rather, maybe it was Alicia mindfully taking notice of the natural wonders around her. Either way, she experienced some profound moments. One worth mentioning was a corn stalk that she stumbled upon that was growing where her home once stood, in the very spot that the fire had started. The symbolism of this plant was a message from the earth telling her that from the ashes, life returns again, and will with abundance. She was finally able to see that this was an opportunity, not a loss. An opportunity to take a tragedy and make something new from it. To build again, make her home into something she once before only dreamed of having.
But soon after this climb, making her way out of despair, Alicia received news that her life coach had passed away. This was devastating for her. It took some time for her to recover from the grief of this loss. But Alicia saw this as an opportunity to take what she learned about self-refelction and keep it alive. Life may have taken her coaches life, but it did not take the wisdom she had shared with Alicia.
Soon after this realization Alicia decided to start making art again, and this time it would be digital art. Poster art. Using all of the photos she had been collecting from her cut-flower farm. Because Alicia knew it would be hard to keep it up with all of the other things on her plate, she challenged herself to make time to create at least one new poster every week. And because she was making this art for herself and her healing journey, she did not feel any pressure, just openness and creativity.
16 poster designs later, Alicia was inspired to turn her poster art into an oracle deck that also told stories where nature had given her the ‘aha’ moments that helped her through her life challenges. So she set off with a list of life lessons, a lot of journaling and photo sifting and created a total of 78 poster designs with contemplation writings.
Fast forward another 2 years and Alicia has completed her self-reflection deck and wants nothing more than to share it with the world, especially to those who look to nature as she does for ‘aha’ moments in life that can help you grow, take that next step and feel alive again.
